EARLY RESIDENT DIES

Enoch Joy, Citizen of Grinnell for Fifty Two Years, Passes Away.

LAST LIVING CHARTER MEMBER OF HERMON LODGE

Was a Veteran of the Civil War and An Active and Honored Citizen.

Enoch Joy, who was stricken with apoplexy last week, died Tuesday evening at the city hospital. He was born in New Hampshire Dec. 30, 1837, and so was past eighty-two years old. He enlisted in Co. C, 18th New Hampshire volunteers, and served till the close of the war.

He came to Grinnell in 1867, and was for several years in the grocery business as a member of the firm of Joy & Preston.

Mr. Joy was married in New Hampshire, Aug. 4, 1858, to Miss A.R.S. Carr. Three children were born to them: Walter, since deceased; Louis, and Nellie, now Mrs. Harry Ridley, of Pasadena.

The funeral will be held at 2:30 o'clock Sunday at Masonic Temple in charge of Hermon lodge of which he was a charter member.

Louis Joy arrived yesterday from Deedrick, Ida., and Mrs. Nellie Ridley is expected today from Pasadena.
