SELF-INFLICTED WOUND FATAL

Services For Ben Lynch Held Monday

Funeral services were held this afternoon for Ben W. Lynch, 40, who died Thursday of what police officers have termed a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Services were held at James Funeral Home with Rev. D.E. Skiles officiating. Burial was at Hazelwood cemetery.

Lynch's body was found in a garage at the rear of the Lynch residence, 622 East street, just before noon Thursday by his wife. A shot gun was found near the body.

Lynch had been home alone at the time of the shooting, which apparently took place about mid-morning. Neighbors told police they had heard a shot about 10 a.m. Mrs. Lynch had been downtown during the morning and discovered the body after returning home about 11:30.

Born September 13, 1914 in Sheridan township, he had been a life long resident of Poweshiek county. He served in the armed forces during peace time.

Surviving are his wife, Retha; six children, Helen, Jimmie, Michael, Pat, Jane and Bill; his mother, Mrs. Susie Lynch Wood of Grinnell; a brother, James of Grinnell; and a sister, Mrs. Leslie (Benita) Brummett of Denver, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his father.
