GLADYS WISECARVER RITES HELD

Gladys Mae Wisecarver, 84, of Grinnell died Saturday evening, March 20, at the Villa del Sol Nursing Home in Marshalltown.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. James. P. Russell, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Organist was Alice Renaud, and pallbearers included Virgil Groth, Bob Hamilton, Lloyd Larsen, Don Larsen, Merland Pfantz and Willard Robison.

Burial was at Hazelwood Cemetery. Memorials in Miss Wisecarver's name may be made to the Grinnell United Methodist Church.

The daughter of William Louis and Anna Marie Larsen Wisecarver, she was born June 18, 1897, on a farm east of Grinnell. She attended local schools and graduated from Grinnell High School.

She worked in the office of the Morrison-Shults Glove Factory and later at the Spurgeon's store. For many years she clerked at the former United Grocery and McNally's. During World War II she was employed at the Maytag Company in Newton.

She was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Daughters of Union Veterans, and in 1968 received her 50-year veterans jewel from the Grinnell Rebekah Lodge. She had lived at 1021 High St. with her three brothers until 1980 when she became a resident of the Marshalltown nursing home.

Miss Wisecarver is survived by two sisters, Maude Clements of Marshalltown and Frances E. Smith of Conrad, and a brother, Gene Wisecarver of Grinnell.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Roy, Raymond, Alfred and Clarence Wisecarver.
