FUNERAL SERVICES HELD TODAY FOR MRS. ALYS ADKINS

Mrs. Alys L. Adkins, 77, Rte. 2, Grinnell, widow of Horace James Adkins, died Friday evening at a local hospital. She had been in ill health for the past 2 1/2 years.

Funeral services were held this afternoon (Monday) from the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Morris Hay, pastor of the Hickory Grove EUB church, officiating. Organ music was provided by Mrs. Kathleen Heffner.

Pallbearers were Garold Dhondt, Dale May, Arthur Smith, Claire Jackson, Harold Jackson, and Dale Adkins. Burial was in Rock Creek cemetery.

The daughter of J.C. and Hannah Solberg Tarvestad, she was born in Des Moines on Mar. 10th, 1886. She attended the public schools in Decorah and at the age of 25 moved to Grinnell.

On May 21st, 1913, she was united in marriage with Horace Adkins at Grinnell by the Rev. James B. Adkins. They lived in the Grinnell and Rock Creek areas until Mr. Adkins died in 1960, and following his death, she continued to live at the family farm.

They were the parents of three children: Miss Ruth Ellen Adkins and Alvin Horace Adkins, both at the family home; and Mrs. Patricia Lucille Smith of Marshalltown.

Mrs. Adkins was a baptized and confirmed member of the Lutheran faith. When able, she was active in the Victor Grange.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Marie A. Tarvestad; and a brother, Leonard M. Tarvestad.

She is survived by her three children; two grandchildren, Thomas Lee and Patrick Lee Smith; and one sister, Miss Ruth J. Tarvestad of Albert Lea, Minn.
