MRS. JACOB HINEGARDNER
(Malcom Leader)

Lydia A. Bowman, daughter of John and Catherine Bowman, was born Sept. 27, 1837, at Timberville, Virginia, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Francis, Oct. 18, 1918. She had four brothers and three sisters, three of whom are living, two brothers and one sister.

At the early age of 18 she united with the Evangelical Lutheran church and kept this faith until death.

On April 8, 1858, she was united in marriage to Jacob Hinegardner, and to this union eight children were born. One son, Lucius, died at the age of eighteen.

Those left to mourn her death are Mrs. Jacob Bowman of Brooklyn, John L. Hinegardner of Grinnell, Dave A. Hinegardner, of Oklahoma, Mrs. Wm. Francis, Brooklyn, M.J. Hinegardner, Glidden, Mrs. B.H. Woomer, Grinnell, and Mrs. H. Humphrey, of Malcom.

In 1880 Mr. and Mrs. Hinegardner and family moved to Iowa on a farm near Brooklyn, where they lived until failing health of Mr. Hinegardner caused them to move to Malcom where he died Oct. 23, 1897.

"Grandma" Hinegardner, as she was known to every one, suffered a stroke of paralysis the last of July and she was taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Humphrey, where she was cared for until a little more than three weeks ago when she was removed to Mrs. Francis'.

During her sickness she was always patient and had a smile for everyone, and always thoughtful of others.

She asked for her neighbors and friends and even asked for the war news a few hours before she died.

All was done for her that could possibly be done by loving hands.

She leaves besides her children, twenty-two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a multitude of friends to mourn her loss.

The funeral was private owning to the quarantine regulations, and was held at the home of Mr. Wm. Francis, but there was a large number of relatives and members of the immediate family in attendance.

The service was conducted by Dr. G.S. Baskerville, pastor of the Presbyterian church of Malcom. He spoke from the text, "How Long Have I to Live," and the thoughts presented were helpful to the bereaved relatives, and a tribute to motherhood.
