ULYSSES GRANT PROVIN WAS A PIONEER IN POWESHIEK COUNTY

Ulysses Grant Provin, youngest son of Fanny and George Provin, was born in Dewitt county, Ill., Sept. 20, 1868 and died in the Marengo hospital Sept. 16 following a long illness.

He was married Feb. 25, 1893 to Emma West, and to this union 5 sons and 2 daughters were born, Clarence, Clyde, Roy, and Elwood all of Guernsey, Walter of Victor, Mrs. Pearl Rauch of Thornburg and Mrs. Melvin Morrison of Brooklyn.

His early married life was spent in the Malcom and Montezuma community. The family moved to a farm near Guernsey in 1906 and has lived in that community ever since.

Survivors include seven children, 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; a grandson, Wayne, was killed in Germany during World War II.

Funeral services were held from the McAninch Chapel in Victor Sept. 19 at 2 o'clock with Rev. William Morehouse, Deep River, and Rev. Robert Bowers, Victor, officiating. Mrs. Arthur Lang sang "In the Garden" and "Rock Of Ages," with Mrs. Betty Reike, organist.

Flowers were cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Leeman McWilliams and Mrs. Leona Johnson. Casket bearers were the sons, Clarence, Clyde, Roy, Elwood, Walter and son-in-law, Melvin Morrison. Burial in the Guernsey cemetery.
