PAUL URFER

Paul G. Urfer, 82, of Brooklyn, died Thursday afternoon, Oct. 6, at the University of Iowa, Iowa City.

Services for Mr. Urfer were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Oct. 10, in the First Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn. Rev. James B. Rea and Rev. Daniel Ogata officiated. Musicians were Mrs. Sarah Heck and Tim and Jolene Babcock. Flower attendants were Mr. and Mrs. William Miller and Mr. and Mrs. Dean Montgomery.

Honorary casket-bearers were Slim Doonan, Glen Stauffer, and members of the Kiwanis Club. Casket-Bearers were Sam Urfer, Ron Urfer, Don Urfer, Jim Urfer, Mick Clemens, and Frank Norton. Interment was in the Brooklyn Cemetery. The Nevenhoven Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Paul Gordon Urfer, son of Frank Urfer and Bertha Morrison Urfer, was born Oct. 16, 1911, near Guernsey.

Paul received his education in rural schools and was graduated from Malcom High School in 1930. He farmed and worked at the Malcom Co-op. He was united in marriage to Irma Pearl Rauch Aug. 25, 1940, in her parents' home in Brooklyn. Following their marriage Paul worked as a carpenter and for Miller and Lindhurst of Grinnell before working for 35 years for Brooklyn Municipal Utilities, retiring in 1975.

Paul was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Brooklyn, the Knights of Pythias, and the Kiwanis Club where he had a 17-year perfect attendance record. Paul is survived by is wife, Irma; two sons, Richard Paul of Montezuma and Dennis Eugene of Brooklyn; one daughter, Sarah Catherine, and her husband, Steve Heck of Brooklyn; one brother, Elmer Urfer of Malcom; and three grandchildren, Steven Paul Heck, Diane Marie Urfer, and Sonya Michelle Heck.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Florence Norton.
