MONTEZUMA MAN DIES IN SUNDAY ACCIDENT
A Vietnam veteran from Montezuma died in a one-car crash early Sunday morning two miles southwest of Montezuma on County Road B, according to Poweshiek County Sheriff Max Allen.
Allen said Ronald L. Brown, 27, lost control of his car while traveling at a high rate of speed when he missed a curve and his car rolled. He was alone in the car at the time of the accident. A police car from Montezuma was following Brown when the crash occurred.
Brown was killed instantly, according to the Sheriff. He was being chased by the Montezuma police because of an earlier traffic violation.
Funeral services for Brown are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Christian church in Montezuma, with the Rev. Ray Biggers of New Sharon officiating. Burial will be in the Jackson Township cemetery.
Brown, who was a construction worker in Montezuma, is survived by his wife, Eileen; his father, Glenn Brown of California; his mother, Mrs. Harold Taylor of Montezuma; and two sisters.
His death was the first highway fatality in Poweshiek County this year.
