MILDRED FISHER

Mildred V. Fisher, 97, of Grinnell died Monday, Nov. 3, at Friendship Manor.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Daniel I. Ogata of Grinnell officiating. Burial will be in Friends Cemetery, New Sharon. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, and the family will be present from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The daughter of Jacob and Clara Dell Rupp Fisher, she was born Feb. 14, 1900, in a sod home near Bird City, Kan. In 1901, the family moved to a farm near New Sharon. She graduated from New Sharon High School and attended Grinnell College for one year.

She taught in Mahaska County rural school, Batavia, Harris, Sutherland, Sheffield, Dallas Center, Grinnell and Bondurant-Farrar, completing 48 years of service. She received her B.A. degree in 1953 and her master's degree in 1958 from Drake University.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ-Congregational.

Surviving is one brother W.M. Fisher of Vancouver, Wash. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Ella M. Hill and Margaret Provin.
