M. MCCOSH OLD SETTLER

Had Resided in Laurel Vicinity And In Grinnell Since Coming From Ireland in 1881.

DIED AT HIS HOME HERE TUESDAY MORNING.

Rev. W.W. Woodburn, Former Pastor, Aided In Funeral Services Thursday Morning.

Mr. Maxwell McCosh, of 932 Elm Street, Grinnell, Iowa, was born in County Antrim, Ireland, July 12, 1856, and died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 1929, aged 72 years, 6 months and 23 days. He came to America in 1881 and settled near Laurel. He has resided in this community and Grinnell ever since. On February 11, 1884 he was united in marriage with Matilda Paul. To this union there have been born nine children, all of whom survive him.

Mr. McCosh united with the Presbyterian church early in life. On moving to Grinnell he became a member of the United Presbyterian church of this place, where he was an honored Trustee for many years, and has been a faithful member.

He had been in poor health for about four years. Since the seventh of last November he had been confined to his bed. At times he suffered intensely, but bore it all patiently. Everything was done for him that possibly could be done by his anxious wife and considerate famiy, and yet he gradually grew weaker until early last Tuesday morning, Feb. 5, he quietly and peacefully passed away.

He leaves to mourn his wife and nine children, Jennie Koger, Edith Koger, Margaret Marshall, Jessie Wells, Miss Ruth, Esther Ziegenmeyer, Mary Wylie, Miss Martha, and Lois Carter; also thirteen grandchildren and two brothers, John of Grinnell, and David of Marshalltown, besides many other relatives and friends.

Mr. McCosh was an honest, industrious citizen, an asset to any community, a kind and loving husband and father, and a faithful friend. During his last illness he found great comfort in the 23rd Psalm and the 14th chapter of John, and expressed his desire to depart and be with Christ. He was at peace with God and his fellow men, and was prepared to go. While making every honest effort to live and serve, he was not afraid of death.

"Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors and their works do follow them."

Funeral services were conducted at his home, 932 Elm street on Thursday, Feb. 7, by the Rev. W.W. Woodburn of Petrolla, Pa., a former pastor, and Rev. I.I. Frederick, the present Pastor. His earthly remains were laid to rest in Hazelwood cemetery, to await the call of Him, who said "I am the resurrection and the life."

Pallbearers were sons-in-law of the deceased, and were: C.A. Koger, Gene Marshall, Otto Ziegenmeyer, Ray Wylie, Harry Carter and Lloyd Wells.
