WILLIAM AHRENS SERVICES HELD THIS AFTERNOON

Retired Farmer Succumbs Saturday To Lingering Illness; Here Since 1938

William J. Ahrens, 76, 1012 Summer street, died at a local hospital November 26th following an illness of several years.

A longtime Grinnell resident, he moved here from Chester township in 1938. Prior to moving to Grinnell, Ahrens had been engaged in farming in this vicinity since 1894.

Born at Redding, Ohio on September 15th, 1879, he moved to Chester township in October, 1894. He was married to Mary Meyer on April 4th, 1906 and she died November 2nd, 1953.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Loren (Alice) Edgington, Grinnell; Mrs. Carl (Lucille) Butler, Malcom; and a son, Stanley of Grinnell.

Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Ella McMillan, Van Nuys, Calif.; Mrs. Dora Geiger, Ames; and a brother, Edward of Grinnell. Other survivors include 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, three sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services were held this afternoon (Monday) from St. John's Lutheran church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Donald Loots officiating.

Interment was at Hazelwood cemetery.
