MRS. AHRENS' RITES HELD WEDNESDAY AT LUTHERAN CHURCH
At St. John's Lutheran church Wednesday afternoon, funeral services for Mrs. Will Ahrens, 69, were conducted by the Rev. Donald Loots.
Vocal soloist was Marilyn Coop and organist was Mrs. Waldo Johnson. John Steen, Allen Meyer, Clair Meyer, Earl Geiger, Alden Ahrens and Wesley Ahrens served as pallbearers. Burial was in Hazelwood cemetery.
OBITUARY
Mary Cornelia Meyer, daughter of John and Angelica Meyer, was born May 11, 1884, in Sheridan township. She spent all of her early years in that area and received her schooling in Sheridan township.
She was baptized and confirmed in Trinity Lutheran church, Malcom.
On April 4, 1906, she was united in marriage to William J. Ahrens. The ceremony, performed by Rev. J.C. Reinsch of Trinity, took place in the home of her parents.
Three children were born to this union, Stanley of Grinnell; Alice (Mrs. Loren Edgington), of Grinnell and Lucille (Mrs. Carl Butler) of Malcom.
Mr. and Mrs. Ahrens made their home on a farm in Chester township for about 25 years and moved to Grinnell in the spring of 1930.
Mrs. Ahrens was a loyal, active member of St. John's Lutheran church in Grinnell. She was a charter member of the Ladies' Aid and will long be remembered for her work in that organization.
The deceased had been in failing health for 2-1/2 years and passed away at St. Francis hospital Monday morning, Nov. 2, at one o'clock.
She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, three children, 11 grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Fred Deedrick of Grinnell and Mrs. Rosa Haynes of Tama. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and three brothers.
