J.C. DEEDRICK RITES HELD THURSDAY

Funeral services for J.C. (Dick) Deedrick, 85, of Malcom, were held Thursday afternoon, April 28, at the Malcom Presbyterian Church. The service was conducted by the Rev. G.R. Dieken with vocal music provided by Mr. and Mrs. Keith Stahl accompanied by Mrs. Nellie Farley, organist.

Mr. Deedrick died Tuesday morning at a Grinnell hospital after a long illness.

Serving on the flower committee were Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Rivers and Mrs. George Baustian. Pallbearers were Walter Hanssen, George Morrison, William R. Morrison, George Baustian, John Douglass and Gail Wheeler. Interment was in Ivy Hill cemetery at Malcom with James-Schalinske Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The son of Joseph and Hannah Schumaker Deedrick, he was born Feb. 26, 1881, in Sheridan township. He received his education in the schools of that community.

On Oct. 10, 1905, he was united in marriage with Mary B. Lidtka at the home of her parents. They farmed in the Sheridan community following their marriage for 11 years and also for 27 years in the Malcom community.

In 1946 they retired and made their home in Malcom. For a number of years he took care of Ivy Hill cemetery. He was a member of the Malcom Presbyterian church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; a daughter, Mrs. Iona Bacvar of Marshalltown; a son, T.J. (Dick) Deedrick of Marshalltown; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Frances Gravelle of Los Angeles, Calif.; two brothers, Fred Deedrick of Grinnell and Joe Deedrick of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, four half-sisters, one brother, and one half-brother.
