FRED J. DEEDRICK SERVICES FRIDAY

Fred J. Deedrick, 88, of 1706 4th Avenue, Grinnell, passed away Tuesday afternoon at a local hospital where he had been a patient since last Sunday.

The son of Joseph and Hannah Shoemaker Deedrick, he was born on December 24, 1878, in Sheridan Township. He attended the Sheridan community school until the death of his father. Then, at 13, he made his home with an older sister, Lizzie Stanford, until he was old enough to work as a hired man. He worked around the Grinnell and Sheridan communities until his marriage on March 8, 1910, to Anna E. Meyer of Grinnell. Following their marriage they farmed in the Sheridan community until retiring in 1959. They then moved to Grinnell.

He is survived by his daughter, Vera Deedrick, a brother, Joe of Newton, and a sister, Mrs. Frances Gravelle of Los Angeles, Calif. He was preceded in death by his wife on December 17, 1962; his parents; seven sisters--Minnie, Lizzie, Gusty, Elizabeth, Anna, Mabel and Mae and three brothers--Charles, Dick, and an infant brother.

Funeral services for Mr. Deedrick will be Friday at 3 p.m. at the James-Schalinske Funeral Home. The Rev. Laverne H. Streich, former pastor of St. John's Lutheran church, now of Oelwein, Ia., will officiate. Interment will be in the Sheridan cemetery.

Organist will be Mrs. Marvin Nothnagel. The flower committee will consist of Mrs. Floyd Heishman and Mrs. Laverne Lamb. Pallbearers will be Laverne Lamb, Wayne Reams, Clarence Cogley, Eldon Oltrogge, Walter Oltrogge and Floyd Heishman.
