PAULA LOUISE STEEN

Paula Louise Steen, 80, of Searsboro died of cancer Tuesday, June 1, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Searsboro Community Friends Church, with the Rev. Don Job officiating. Organist was Joyce James, and vocalists were Rhonda Minner and the Roy James Family.

Casket bearers were Mark Doll, Marty James, Matt James, Richard Lowry, Terry Lowry and Tom Tish II. Honorary bearers were Ron Baker, Roy James, George Mallon, Bryan Shutts II, Larry Steen, Tom Tish and Tony Tish.

Burial was in West Liberty Cemetery, rural Searsboro, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

She was the daughter of Flossie "Iowa" Broyles and Edgar Paul Johnson and was born April 15, 1919, near Searsboro. She spent her childhood on a farm and attended Searsboro School, graduating from Searsboro Consolidated High School in 1936.

She was married to Alfred Steen Feb. 14, 1940, at Searsboro. They farmed near South Amana and Guernsey, then in the Searsboro on land that had been in her family for over a century.

She was a lifelong member of the Searsboro Community Friends Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, clerk of the Monthly Meeting and a member of the Ministry and Counsel. She attended the Bunker Hill Booster Club.

Surviving are her husband; three children, Karen Louise Tish of Leavenworth, Kan., Dianne Joyce James of Montezuma and Larry Paul Steen of Webster; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one brother, Marvin Johnson of Salem, Ark.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Donald and Kenneth Johnson.

Memorial contributions may be made to her church.
