OSTROM RITES HELD SEPT. 8 IN HARTWICK

HARTWICK -- Funeral services for Fred G. Ostrom, 78, were held last Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the Hartwick Congregational church with the Rev. Martin in charge. Mrs. Alta Carlson with Mrs. Laura Korns provided vocal music. Burial was in the Hartwick cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Waldo McLennan, Chas. Sherwood, Frank Craig, Wm. Fisher, Herman Staffenbeal and Ward Fearneyhaugh.

With the death of Mr. Ostrom, Hartwick has lost one of it's old time residents. His death occurred September 6th at 10:45 a.m. in the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Ostrom.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. George Ostrom, he was born near Hartwick on July 21, 1867. On March 6, 1889 he married Maria Housman at Belle Plaine. The couple farmed in the Hartwick community.

Since the death of Mrs. Ostrom on May 2, 1942 he has made his home with his son, Jim.

Those who survive are the following eight children, Charles, Jim and Mrs. Fred Bees, all of Hartwick; Mrs. Edna Ryan of Brooklyn; Mrs. Margaret Heishman of Deep River; Mrs. Nellie Killion of Denison; Mrs. Hazel Blankenship of Great Falls, Mont. and Mrs. Dorothy Smith of Newton. A son, George, and daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Chess, preceded him in death. He also leaves one brother, Arthur, and one sister, Mrs. Jennie Dixon, both of Hartwick; 17 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. One grandson, Lt. Dale Killion, lost his life in service in Janaury 1944.

Among those attending the funeral were Mrs. Lola Fangman of Dubuque, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Swecker of Victor, Mrs. Florence Steffy and Keith and Miss Elva Steffy of Montezuma, Mr. and Mrs. Percy Ostrom and Mrs. Ada Carlson of Brooklyn and Mr. and Mrs. Will Swain of Chicago.
