FUNERAL MONDAY FOR MRS. FLORENCE OSTROM

Funeral services for Mrs. Florence Ostrom, 82, were held in the Congregational church at Hartwick Monday afternoon at two o'clock in charge of the Rev. Robert Cutbirth. Organist was Mrs. Cutbirth who accompanied Mrs. Calvin Korns singing, "The Garden of Prayer."

Burial was in the Hartwick cemetery with Guy Dixon, Ray Ostrom, Fred Bees, Charles Ostrom, Lloyd Lambert and Jim Ostrom serving as pallbearers. In charge of flowers were Mr. and Mrs. George Williams and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Smith.

Florence High, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John C. High, was born March 11, 1882, in Carroll, Pa. When she was 11 months old, the family moved to Shell City, Mo. In 1886 her two sisters died and the following year her father was killed in a cyclone. In 1889 she came with her mother and brother to Chelsea.

She was married to A.R. Ostrom of Hartwick June 22, 1915, and six years later the couple adopted a daughter, Vertner, who is now Mrs. Russell Gabriel of Hartwick. Mr. and Mrs. Ostrom operated the telephone office in Hartwick for many years. Mr. Ostrom died Jan. 5, 1940.

Mrs. Ostrom entered a nursing home in Grinnell in 1958 and was able to care for herself until she suffered a broken hip and was hospitalized on several occasions. She died at the Happy Hour rest home in Grinnell Sept. 5, 1964.

In addition to her daughter she is survived by a brother, John D. High of Minneapolis, Minn.; four half-sisters, Mrs. Kit Ditzler and Mrs. Nina Hagen, both of Belle Plaine, Mrs. Alta Langan of Lancaster, Pa. and Mrs. Addie Case of Cedar Rapids and two half brothers, J.H. Bostian of Tama, and R.W. Bostian of Belle Plaine.
