JOE RYAN, RETIRED FARMER DIES NOV. 18

Funeral services for Joe M. Ryan, 69, retired farmer, were held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock at the Bramer Funeral Home with Rev. George Roquet officiating. Organist was Mrs. Ed Bartachek.

Burial was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Brooklyn. Pallbearers were William Heitsman, August Van Renterghem, Dale Van Tomme, Lester King, John Curran and Daryl Gallagher. Honorary bearers were James Plants, Clarke Hall, Thomas Johnson, Eugene Gallagher, Kenneth Dieterich and William Roth. Mrs. Eula Mae Van Tomme, Mrs. Mary Ann Dhooge, Mrs. August Van Renterghem and Mrs. Ruth Sanders were flower attendants.

Mr. Ryan died November 18 at St. Francis hospital, Grinnell, where he had been hospitalized intermittently.

The son of James M. and Jennie Renner Ryan he was born Jan. 13, 1898 at Hartwick. He married Edna R. Ostrom on Nov. 17, 1921. They lived at Hartwick a year, and then farmed near Brooklyn until retirement four years ago when they moved to Brooklyn.

He is survived by his wife, Edna; two daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Maxine) Wenger of Brooklyn, and Mrs. Francis (Marjorie) Cannon of Atlantic, Iowa, and a son, Max Ryan of Guernsey; 12 grandchildren; two brothers, Rollin Ryan of Princeton, Mo., and Wallace Ryan of Hartwick and two sisters, Marie Cunningham of Santa Maria, Calif., and Florence Iler of Donners Grove, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
