WILLIAM DIXON, HARTWICK FARMER, DIED OCT. 11

Succumbed to a Lingering Illness in Grinnell Hospital

William Dixon of the Hartwick community passed away Sunday, Oct. 11, at 11:05 a.m., in St. Francis hospital in Grinnell. He had been in failing health for two years and had been in the hospital for one month.

He was born Nov. 23, 1874, to Thomas and Jane Dixon on a farm north of Hartwick. He attended the rural school and the Walnut Creek church in that community. Jan. 20, 1897, he was married to Jennie Ostrom at Hartwick, and they started farming east of Hartwick, where they remained for a few years. They then moved to a farm near Sheldon and lived there four years. Returning to Hartwick, they lived in that community ever since with the exception of two years spent in Brooklyn.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Hazel Fish, of Belle Plaine; one son, Guy, at home; one son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Dixon, of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Marilyn Alyce, Jean and Patricia Fish; three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Cunningham of Belle Plaine; Mrs. Myrtle Vermace of Hartwick, and Mrs. Mabel Pittman of Los Angeles, Calif.; one brother, George and other relatives and friends. His parents, one sister, and two brothers, preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held in the Hartwick Congregational church Tuesday, Oct 13, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Paul F. Bechtold officiating. Mrs. Calvin Korns and Mrs. Erickson sang, accompanied by Mrs. Everett Korns. The flowers were cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Messerli and Mr. and Mrs. Ben Grier.

Pallbearers were Russell O'Halloran, Robert Dixon, William Dixon, Scott Rowland, John Dixon and Cliff Dixon. Burial was in the Hartwick cemetery.
