OBITUARY

Margaret W. Ostrom was born Oct. 6, 1835 in Genesee county, N.Y. At the age of four years she moved with her parents to Knox county, Illinois. She was married to Geo. L. Ostrom, March 21, 1857. They continued their residence in Illinois until 1866, when they removed to Iowa, where by thrift they have won prosperity and by kindness a multitude of warm friends.

Mrs. Ostrom passed away July 12, 1903 at her home in Hartwick. She leaves her husband, four sons and two daughters, her eldest son having preceded her to the future life. Her sudden death was a bereavement deeply felt not only by her immediate family, but by the entire neighborhood, for she was a woman the pathway of whose life was thickly strewn with numberless deeds of kindness and mercy which will bless forever the memories of those to whom she has been a ministering angel. Her efficiency and tact in times of sickness and sorrow, her unassuming readiness to help the needy and the afflicted have endeared her to the hearts of all who knew her. As a wife and mother, a neighbor and a friend, she was a rare and high example of those virues which make life worth living.

Mr. and Mrs. Ostrom were early settlers in this locality and have long been among our most widely known and highly respected citizens. After so many years of happily wedded life, of toil and victory, joy and sorrow shared together, they were just building a comfortable home, in which to spend the declining years of old age, when the wife of his youth and his life companion was so suddenly and unexpectedly taken. She was apparently in vigorous health for a woman of her age, and was attending to her usual household duties on the morning of her death. She lay down as she supposed for a few moments rest, and passed away without the slightest suffering, as if she were falling into a gentle, restful sleep. Fortunately her family and friends learned of her serious condition in time to gather about her bedside during the last hour of her earthly life. Her husband and children have the sympathy of their many friends in this great bereavement.
