The Brooklyn Chronicle (Brooklyn, Iowa) July 17, 1903

Our town and community was shocked last Sunday morning when it became known that Mrs. G.L. Ostrom had died very suddenly. The report was incredible to her friends and neighbors who had seen her perusing her morning work with the same usual vigor that was so characteristic of this worthy woman. A short time before she had accompanied her husband across the street to where their residence was being built and on returning to the house, went to her room to lie down for her usual Sunday rest. Husband happening to go into the room later noticed her appearance and asked her if she felt sick. She replied that she had only lain down to rest. She felt no pain and did not seem to realize her condition. Dr. Phillips and friends were quickly summoned but before any of them reached the home her spirit had taken its flight. The funeral took place from the Congregational church Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. R.F. Douglass, of Victor, after which the remains were interred in the Harwick cemetery. She leaves a husband, four sons and two daughters to mourn her loss all of which were present at her funeral. A brother, Mr. Andrew Ostrom, of Laurens, Iowa; Mrs. Addie Shrieve and Mrs. Kittie Johns, of Charter Oak, Iowa, nieces, were also present from a distance.
