ORAL STAFFANOU

Oral Sara Staffanou, 89, a longtime resident of Grinnell, died Friday, March 29, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with burial in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Memorials in Mrs. Staffanou's name may be made to Grinnell General Hospital or St. Francis Manor.

The daughter of William Robert and Rosetta Smith Arnold, she was born Dec. 1, 1901, in Blakesburg. She was a graduate of Blakesburg High School and a 1926 graduate of the Iowa Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Des Moines.

She was married to Theodore (Ted) Staffanou July 18, 1927, in Grinnell. Mrs. Staffanou worked as a nurse at the former Community Hospital in Grinnell and, briefly at Ottumwa Hospital.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the United Methodist Church and the Iowa Methodist Hospital Alumna Association. She was a former member of the Eastern Star and the World War I Auxiliary.

Surviving are a son, Dr. Robert S. Staffanou of Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren; two sisters, Anna Siepert of Cedar Falls and Vera Proctor of Blakesburg; and one brother, William Arnold of Eddyville. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Edith Staffanou and Alma Dagit.
