REV. J.M. BROWN CALLED BY DEATH

Passed Away Suddenly Monday Night in Battle Creek, Michigan.

BODY WILL BE BROUGHT TO GRINNELL FOR BURIAL.

Funeral Services Will be held Friday at 2:30 O'clock From M.E. Church.

Grinnell friends were deeply grieved when the news came by telegram this morning of the death of Rev. J.M. Brown, for so many years pastor of the Grinnell Methodist church, in Battle Creek, Mich., at 10:30 o'clock last night. Death came suddenly. Dr. Brown had not been in good health but when he went to Battle Creek last Saturday from Chicago there was no indication of any change in his condition. Mrs. Brown was with him.

The body will be brought to Grinnell for burial, reaching here Thursday and the funeral services will be held Friday at 2:30 o'clock from the Methodist church.

Dr. Brown was for seven years the pastor of the Grinnell Methodist church. He was a pulpit orator of great ability, a pastor of rare parts, a genial and friendly man. There was general regret when in September of 1919 he left Grinnell to become superintendent of the Oskaloosa district with headquarters in Oskaloosa. In the discharge of the duties of that responsible office he was in Grinnell frequently and was always cordially welcomed.

On account of poor health Dr. Brown resigned last December. He had been spending some time in Chicago with his children and his friends hoped for him many years of comfort and comparative health.

In addition to his wife, Dr. Brown is survived by six children, Mrs. Clarence Watland of Grinnell, Mrs. Elsie Long, Kenneth and Donald, all of Chicago, Mrs. Ruth Crawford of Lake Zurich, a suburb of Chicago, and Mrs. Helen Powell of Deer Lodge, Mont. Mrs. Powell will arrive Friday morning to attend the funeral.
