GARY W. BUFFUM

Gary W. Buffum, 55, of Pittsfield, Mass., formerly of Grinnell, died following a lengthy illness Thursday, Dec. 23, at Berkshire Medical Center there.

Funeral services were conducted Dec. 28 in Great Barrington, Mass., with burial in Sheffield Center Cemetery, Sheffield, Mass.

He was the son of Joseph and Gladys Slagle Buffum and was born Jan. 13, 1938, in Grinnell. He attended school here, graduating from Grinnell High School in 1957. He served with the U.S. Navy in the Great Lakes area from 1957 to 1961.

Mr. Buffum was employed by the Berkshire School in Sheffield and later worked for General Electric in Pittsfield, retiring in 1992 after 25 years of service.

Surviving are a son, William Gardiner of Belton, S.C.; one brother, James of Grinnell; and three sisters, Sue Buffum, Linda Kingsley and Becky Buffum, all of Grinnell. His longtime companion, Barbara Rice of Pittsfield, also survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Gladys, and one sister, Betty Jo.
