VADA VAN RENTERGHEM, 93

Vada Ruth Lineweaver Van Renterghem was a life long resident of Brooklyn. She was born March 28, 1914, at Brooklyn, and died Sunday, July 15, 2007, at Brooklyn Community Estate, Brooklyn.

Her parents were Walker Lineweaver and Floy Davidson Lineweaver. She received her education in a country school and Brooklyn High School graduating in 1933. She taught school at Bear Creek #2. On May 6, 1940, Vada was united in marriage to August Van Renterghem at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn. They were the parents of two children, Roger and Ruth Ann. They farmed near Brooklyn until Feb. 14, 1982, when they retired and moved into Brooklyn. August died Feb. 26, 2000. Since January, Vada has been a resident of Brooklyn Community Estate. Vada was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, St. Patrick's Altar & Rosary Society and the Gleeful Workers Club. She taught Sunday school religion classes for ten years. Vada's first love was her family. She enjoyed baking, (especially pies for her children and grandchildren), playing cards, dancing, quilting, embroidery, gardening and her flowers.

Her parents; her husband; one brother, Kenneth Lineweaver; and one sister, Beulah preceded her in death.

Surviving are her children, Roger (Carol) Van Renterghem of Brooklyn, and Ruth (Ron) Wright of Springfield, Ill.; six grandchildren, Mike (Cindy) Van Renterghem of Brooklyn, LeAnn (Perry) Wehrle of Brooklyn, Russ (Beth) Van Renterghem of Oskaloosa, Susan (Dan) Lentsch of Ottumwa, Riana (Wes) Cattoor of Springfield, Ill., and Trena (Mark) Fowler of Kansas City, Mo.; nine great-grandchildren, Kristopher and Sabrina Law, Amanda, Tommy, and Dana Van Renterghem, Jesse Van Renterghem, Paige Lentsch, Kali Fowler and Trenton Cattoor.

Funeral services for Vada Van Renterghem were held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 19, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn. Rev. Brian Shepley officiated and the musician was Marilyn Kriegel. Special selections were "Amazing Grace," "Here I am Lord," "How Great Thou Art," and "Circle me, O God." Casket-bearers were Mike Van Renterghem, Russ Van Renterghem, Perry Wehrle, Dan Lentsch, Mark Fowler and Wes Cattoor. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn. A scripture service was held at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 18, at the Nevenhoven Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established.
