MRS. S. BRUNER WAS ONE OF THE OLD TIMERS

The death of Mrs. S. Bruner of Kansas City has taken away one of the last members of a group of early settlers in Poweshiek and Tama counties. The Bruners located in the fifties on the creek about three miles northwest of present Toledo and built a flouring mill at that place. After Toledo had grown up and destroyed the commanding position this mill had in the early days, S. Bruner moved to Grinnell and bought the old Clark flouring mill which stood where the Presbyterian church now stands. There are many citizens in Grinnell who will remember the old Bruner mill.

There are one or two members of the old Bruner family still living in Tama county but the death of this elderly lady has taken away the last of those early timers in Grinnell. A son and one daughter still live at Kansas City. The son is A.C. Bruner and the daughter is Mrs. Nettie Murray. One son, Ed. Bruner, is still living in Honduras.
