ELIAS L. JAMES DIES AT THE AGE OF 82 YEARS.

Searsboro, Special: Elias L. James, son of Henry and Mary Ann James, was born in Sugar Creek township, Dec. 12, 1859, and departed this life Aug. 8, 1942, at the advanced age of 82 years, 7 months and 26 days. He spent his boyhood on the farm much as other boys did, attending country school and helping with chores and farm work. He was married to Miss Manerva English, July 29, 1879. To this union 5 children were born. A son passed away in infancy. Mrs. Inez Evans died a number of years ago. Surviving children are Mrs. Ona Davis of Altoona, Mrs. Ruby Davis and Mrs. Fay Stanley of Grinnell. Mr. James spent his entire life in Sugar Creek township, except a few years when he made his home in Missouri. He was converted in a tent meeting conducted by Tillie Adkins near his home in 1888 and has lived a consistent Christian life up to the time of his death.

He leaves to mourn his passing his faithful wife, who has shared his joys and sorrows for more than 60 years; the three daughters, 8 grand children and 1 great grand son, besides numerous relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted from the home Tuesday, Aug. 11, by Miss Myrtle Lee and Mrs. Greiner, consisting of prayer, scripture reading and comments. Mrs. Greiner sang two selections. The pall bearers were George Lowry, Ernest Mithcell, H.R. Latham, Rollo Brignon, Homer Moore and Glen Bowen. Burial was in the Friends Cemetery west of Searsboro.

Those who attended from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Davis and Lucille and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Davis of Altoona; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Stanley, Mr. and Mrs. John T. Stanley, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Stanley, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Stanley, Charles Stanley, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Downey and Mr. and Mrs. Homer Powell, all of Grinnell; Mr. and Mrs. Tony Miller and Mrs. Ida Steen of Taintor; Mr. and Mrs. Mont Stillwell of New Sharon and Sergeant Craig Stanley and wife of Mobile, Alabama.
