The Grinnell Herald (Grinnell, Iowa) Oct. 30, 1906

--Word has been received here that Ed. James, a prominent farmer living at Jamestown, near Davenport, committed suicide yesterday by hanging himself to a tree while his family were attending a neighbor's funeral. The deceased was a brother of Misses Hattie and Julia James and has other relatives here. He lived here for a time, moving away twenty five or thirty years ago. The town in Scott county where he lived was named after his family. Brooding over ill health is supposed to have been the cause of his killing himself.
