LOUIS HOUVENAGLE FUNERAL SATURDAY

Louis Houvenagle was born in Muscatine county, Iowa, March 29, 1859 and departed this life March 19, 1925, age 65 years, 11 months and 19 days. Mr. Houvenagle grew to manhood in Muscatine county. It was here while in his teens he united with the Baptist church which has been his faith through life. On December 17, 1884 he was united in marriage to Miss Fatima Berriman of Blue Grass. To this union one son was born, Roy J. of Grinnell. In the spring of 1888 this family moved to a farm here in Poweshiek county, 5 miles east of Grinnell, later moivng to a farm north of town where they resided until the spring of 1909 when they moved to their present home in Newburg. In these past 37 years around Grinnell and in Newburg, Mr. Houvenagle made many friends by his ever kind and generous dispostion. Never was he too tired or sick to have a cheerful word for both old and young. While he had been in failing health for the past two years his condition had not been considered serious but on Thursday at about 2 o'clock while walking from his home to the Watland Lumber Co. office he was stricken with apoplexy and died almost instantly. Funeral services conducted by Rev. Mr. Smith were held at the Congregational church at Newburg Saturday at 2 p.m. Burial was in Hazelwood. H.M. Breeden, Henry Lore, Emery Brown, Chas. Ryan, Edwin and Will Adams, all intimate friends, acted as pallbearers.

Besides his wife and son he leaves to mourn his loss, one sister Mrs. Henry Drumm and one brother Frank, both of Blue Grass, besides a large number of nieces and nephews. Those who attended the funeral from a distance were a nephew, Stewart Houvenagle of Muscatine, Iowa, Mrs. Josephine Willis and Mrs. Mary Bruce of Des Moines.
