Frances Caroline Hoffman of Tulare, Calif. was born Sept. 3, 1881 near Salem, Kans. to Daniel and Catherine Bedner Horak. The family first moved to Grinnell shortly after a tornado that destroyed so much property in the late '80's, and farmed in the Grinnell area for many years. She spent her early childhood and high school years in Grinnell.

She was first married to Malcom McKinley and to this union was born one child, Phyllis McKinley, who preceded her in death in Sept., 1931. Later she was united in marriage to George O.W. Hoffman on March 30, 1918 and to this union were born two children: Harry Hoffman of Addison, Ill. and Mrs. Harlow (Kathryn L.) Mack.

She is survived by her two children, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, John Horak of Des Moines, as well as many relatives.

She passed away in Hanford, Calif. on March 21, 1959, following a short illness.

Services for Mrs. Frances C. Hoffman were held at 2:00 p.m. Wed., March 23, 1959 at the Smith
Funeral Home with Elder Fred Fish of the Grinnell Christian church officiating. Organist as Mrs. Rhee Auman, with Mrs. Don Thompson vocalist.

Pallbearers were Dan Hunter, Warren Miller, Gary Miller, John Peak, Don Thompson and Charles Kelly. Burial was in Hazelwood cemetery.
