Clyde, third of 11 children born to Thomas and Ann Matthew Foster, was born in Scott county, Iowa, Mar. 18th, 1876, and died June 12th, 1961, at his home in Grinnell following a protracted illness.

With his family, in the fall of 1886, he moved to Chester township, Poweshiek county, to a farm five miles north of Grinnell where he was educated in the nearby rural schools and grew to manhood.

On Dec. 24th, 1900, he was united in marriage with Carrie Wesco, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Wesco and they made their abode on an adjoining farm where they lived until they purchased the present farm north of the Chester church. They lived there until their retirement to Grinnell in 1944.

They had no children of their own but took into their home a nephew, Max Foster, temporarily during illness in his parents' home. Later they adopted a little girl, Jeanne, and she, with a granddaughter, survive, living in California.

In 1952 Mrs. Foster died. In 1953 he was united in marriage with Mrs. Janette Cratty, who survives. A brother, Eugene Foster, youngest of the family, also survives.

Mr. Foster was a township assessor for many years and served his community in church and civic affairs. He was a member of the Chester Congregational church, a Mason and a member of the local Sonora Grange.

Funeral services were held June 14th at the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. G.S. Bruland officiating. Organist was Mrs. Rhee Auman and pallbearers were Bill Stayton, Raymond Schnell, Ray Brubaker, Tracy Lidtka, Harold Tice and Alex Jack.

Masonic graveside rites were conducted by Sharp Lannom, master of the funeral lodge, and members of Hermon Lodge No. 273, Grinnell. Burial was in Chester township cemetery.

Those attending the services from a distance were: Mrs. Glenn Duke, Glendale, Calif.; Max Foster, Phoenix, Ariz.; Merle Foster, Kansas City, Mo.; Thomas Foster, West Brooklyn, Ill.; Arthur Foster, Rockford, Ill.; Mrs. Lela Sears and Mrs. Harold Gimar, Des Moines. Others came from Marshalltown, Washington, and Montezuma.
