Obituary dated Sept. 15, 1896
--Hiram H. Legg was born in Bethany, Genesee county, N.Y., July 5, 1829, in a family of ten children, three of whom survive. He came to Malcom, Iowa, in 1871, and engaged in farming, and occupied the farm of Mrs. S.C. Lewis eighteen years. He enjoyed good health until in the spring of 1893, since which time he has been a great sufferer until his death on the 11th inst., in the family of his son, A.A. Legg. His marriage was on January 22, 1849, at Bethany, and his wife and three of their six children,--their son, A.A., and Mrs. C.K. Rich and Mrs. C.H. Kingdon--still live. He was a member of the M.E. church before coming to Iowa, but did not renew his membership here. The family have the joy of happiest memories of a kind husband and father, and the neighbors feel the loss of one always ready to be helpful, and a man whose friendship was unwavering. They manifested their sympathy and their sincere sorrow by a profusion of flowers at the funeral and by a large attendance. The tribute was deserved and was a worthy one. It will be a comfort to the surviving friends. The services were conducted by Professor Parker, and the interment was in Hazelwood Sunday afternoon.
