CHESTER BURCH DIES THURSDAY AT HOME HERE
Chester H. Burch, longtime resident of Grinnell, died at his home here on Thursday, August 13. He was 72 years old. He had been in ill health for several years.
Funeral services were held Saturday from James Funeral Home with Rev. C.E. Kingsley officiating. Mrs. Fred McDowell and Mrs. Delbert Rayl sang, accompanied by Mrs. Willie Laymiller.
Pallbearers were Clyde Foster, Claude Thompson, Mike Brooks, J.E. Foster, Carl Boget and Max Sarver with burial in Hazelwood cemetery.
Son of Herbert and Margaret Foster Burch, he was born in Scott County, Iowa, February 26, 1883. When a small boy he moved with his parents to Grinnell, and made his home in this area the rest of his life.
On February 17, 1909, he was united in marriage to Mary J. McDowell at her home in the Oak Grove community. With his companion he spent his active life as a farmer in the Oak Grove area near Grinnell.
About seven years ago he suffered the beginning of a lingering illness which increasingly confined him to his home in Grinnell.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; his sister-in-law, Mrs. Mable Burch; 1 niece, Mrs. Harold Miller; 2 nephews, Beverley and Donald; other relatives and many friends.
