A. SEVENBERGEN, 65 DIES THURSDAY

Arnold Sevenbergen, 65, Grinnell, died Thursday afternoon at an Iowa City hospital. He had been in ill health for the past year.

Funeral services were held this afternoon (Monday) from the Smith Funeral Home with the Assembly of God pastors, the Rev. Ralph Houghton and the Rev. Donald Rich, officiating. Vocal music was provided by the Rev. and Mrs. Ralph Houghton, accompanied by Mrs. Rhee Auman at the organ.

Flower bearers were Mrs. Charles Austin and Mrs. Donald King. Pallbearers were Frank Clay, John McIlrath, Francis Barkley, Fred Hagenlock, William Belcher, and George W. Wilson. Burial was in Ivy Hill cemetery at Malcom with members of Hopeful Barracks conducting graveside rites.

Born June 14th, 1887, at Charlois, Holland, he was the son of Cornelius and Jennie Stok Sevenbergen. He received his early education in Holland and at the age of 14 came to the United States with his parents and settled at Pella.

He enlisted in the cavalry of the United States Army in 1916 and served until 1920. Following his discharge, he enrolled at Iowa State College.

On June 14th, 1921, he was united in marriage with Winifred E. Burch at Grinnell. To this union were born five children: Robert of Huron, Ohio; Bill of Newton; Keith of Mansfield, Ohio; Mrs. Henry (Mary Ida) Butler of Newton; and Mrs. Floyd (Shirley) Choat of Ontario, Calif.

In addition to his wife, Winifred, he is survived by 19 grandchildren and two brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandchild, one sister and several brothers.

Mr. Sevenbergen lived in several communities in central Iowa before moving to Grinnell in 1937 to make his home. He was a member of the First Assemby of God church and the World War I veterans organization, Hopeful Barracks.
