MORRIS ALTEMEIER

Morris W. Altemeier, 85, of rural Newburg died Friday, Nov. 9, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Epperson, pastor of the Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Organist was Alice Renaud, and vocalists were Delmar and Norma Jean Sharp.

Pallbearers were his grandsons, Kevin, Steven, Stanley, Christopher, Todd, Shawn and Chad Altemeier; Lance Sherlock; Ryan and Robb Craddock; and Scott, Troy and Shane Gosselink. Flower bearers were his granddaughters, Cindy Aikin, Nancy Sue Evans, Cathy Gilliland, Bonnie Lou Taylor, Tammy Beebe, Cheryl Nolin, Tonya Harklau, Lori Ditzler, Lisa Moyer, Sonja Craddock, and Jill and Tara Altemeier.

Burial was in Chester Cemetery north of Grinnell.

Memorial contributions in Mr. Altemeier's name may be made to the Chester Cemetery.

He was the son of William and Leria Morris Altemeier and was born Jan. 10, 1909, north of Newton. He attended rural school.

On Nov. 15, 1930, he was married to Beulah Anderson in Bethany, Mo. They lived near Newton until moving to their farm in 1941.

Mr. Altemeier was a member of the Rushville Church near Kellogg.

He is survived by his wife; five sons, Dwane of Newton, Earl of Brooklyn, Leo of Malcom, Clyde of Moline, Ill., and Doyle of Gilman; three daughters, Jan Sherlock and Lavonne Gosselink, both of Grinnell, and Karen Craddock of Macomb, Ill.; 25 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and two sisters, Eva Damman of Newton and Odessa Stein of Ypsilanti, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Laurence; two sisters, Pearl Altemeier and Lucille Snodgrass; and one grandson.
