NAOMI BUTCHER
Naomi R. Butcher, 71, of 1517 Summer St., Grinnell, died Thursday, July 18, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
A private family graveside service will be held at Hazelwood Cemetery.
She was born Jan. 22, 1931, in Newburg to Claude and Alice Breeden Badger. She was raised in Grinnell and was a 1949 gradute of Grinnell High School.
She was married to Edward E. Butcher Jan. 20, 1951, in Yuma, Ariz. The couple lived in Grinnell where she worked as a secretary for Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Co. until her retirement in 1982.
She is survived by two sons, Phillip E. of Fuquay-Varine, N.C., and Stephen M. of Grinnell; one daughter, Cynthia Roovaart of Grinnell; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Julie Spencer of San Jose, Calif., and Avis Badger of Sandusky, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one brother and two sisters.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Hazelwood Cemetery Landscaping Fund and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell 50112.

Naomi R. Butcher, 71, of Grinnell, died July 18, 2002, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Her body was deeded to the anatomy department of the University of Iowa in Iowa City.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, at Hazelwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hazelwood Cemetery Landscaping Fund.
The daughter of Claude and Alice Breeden Badger, she was born Jan. 22, 1931, in Newburg. She was raised in Grinnell and was a 1949 graduate of Grinnell High School. She was married on Jan. 10, 1951, in Yuma, Ariz., to Edward E. Butcher. The couple lived in Grinnell and she was employed as a secretary at Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company until her retirement in 1982.
She is survived by one daughter Cynthia Roovaart of Grinnell; two sons, Phillip Butcher of Faquay-Varine, N.C. and Stephen M. Butcher of Grinnell; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and two sisters, Julie Spencer of San Jose, Calif., and Avis Badger of Sandusky, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother and two sisters.
