GEROLD DEAN COWAN JR.

Gerold Dean Cowan Jr., 39, of rural Brooklyn died Wednesday, June 21, at his home.

The Poweshiek County Sheriff's Department is investigating the death as an apparent suicide. Mr. Cowan apparently died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to the Sheriff's Department, a concerned neighbor discovered the body and notified authorities.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn, with the Rev. Kalen K. Fristad officiating. Graveside services were conducted later that afternoon at Cincinnati, Iowa.

The son of Gerold D. and Bonnie J. Dorsett Cowan, he was born July 4, 1949, in Cincinnati. He attended Grinnell schools. He was married to Susan Eileen Reed. Mr. Cowan had been a self-employed truck driver.

Surviving are his wife, Susan; one son, Buck; two daughters, Stephanie and Abbey; his parents, of Judsonia, Ark.; one brother, Nicky of League City, Texas; three sisters, Jeannie Wittneben of Grinnell, Paulette Johnannes of Judsonia and Valerie Gilbreaith of Kellogg; and his grandmother, Coral Wayne Main of Unionville, Mo.
