LUCILLE R. SNODGRASS

Lucille R. Snodgrass, 86, of Rte. 1, Grinnell, died Monday, June 29, at Friendship Manor.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Epperson, pastor of the Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Organist will be Margaret Wheeler, and vocalists will be Marlene Gritsch. Pallbearers will be Don Ahrens, Richard Clayton, Andy Davis, Gene Gritsch, Adrian Versendaal and Carl Vinall. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

She was the daughter of William and Leria Morris Altemeier and was born Aug. 18, 1905, in Newton. She attended rural school in Jasper County and later graduated from Oskaloosa High School. She attended William Penn College in Oskaloosa and received her nursing certificate.

She was married to Carrold Snodgrass Aug. 27, 1924, in Des Moines. The couple farmed near Newton and Grinnell and moved to Grinnell in 1947. Mrs. Snodgrass worked for many years in the obstetrics department at the former St. Francis Hospital in Grinnell. She also worked at Grinnell General Hospital and for Grinnell-area nursing homes, retiring in 1974.

Surviving are one daughter, Marceil Sieck of Grinnell; two sons, Donovan of Sully and Ronnie of Kellogg; 19 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Morris Altemeier of Grinnell; and two sisters, Eva Damman of Newton and Odessa Steen of Ypsilanti, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Clifford and Ivan; two daughters, Phyllis Snodgrass and Joyce Johnson; one grandson; one brother, Lawrence Altemeier; and one sister, Pearl Altemeier.
