MR. SNODGRASS RITES SATURDAY
Carrold C. Snodgrass, 73, of Rte. 1, Grinnell, died Wednesday evening at his home west of the Grinnell city limits. He had been in failing health for a number of years and was confined to his home in recent months.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Bear, pastor of the Sully Community Church, officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Kathleen Heffner, organist, and Mrs. Wayne Dayton, vocalist. Pallbearers were Paul Ahrens, Gary Altemeier, Gene Campbell, Glen Riddle, Carl Vinal and Walter Winchell. Burial was at Union Cemetery, Newton.
The son of Oliver and Edith Morris Snodgrass, he was born Sept. 7, 1903, at Newton, When he was a young man, he and his family moved to Chester, S.D., and he later returned to live at Melbourne, Ia. He had made his home in Grinnell for the past 30 years.
On Aug. 27, 1924, Mr. Snodgrass was married to Lucille Regina Altemeier. The couple had seven children.
Mr. Snodgsrass was a trucker in the Grinnell area and also operated the former Colonial Oil Station. He was a charter member of the Mariposa Grange in Jasper County.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille; six children, Clifford L. Snodgrass of Newton, Donovan C. Snodgrass of Sully, Mrs. Paul (Marceil) Sieck of Rte. 1, Grinnell, Ronnie Dean Snodgrass of Kellogg, Phyllis Jean Snodgrass of Philadelphia, Pa., and Mrs. Joyce Johnson of Newton; 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, Myron of Kellogg, Odell of Branson, Mo., and Jack of Peoria, Ill.; and a sister, Vivian of Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ivan Glen Snodgrass, who died in infancy; and a brother, Bill.
