DOROTHY LANNOM

Dorothy Lannom, 90, of Grinnell and formerly of Cedar Rapids, died on Saturday, July 19, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12, at the United Church of Christ-Congregational in Grinnell, with the Rev. Robert Molsberry, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

She was born on Nov. 3, 1912, in Cedar Rapids and was raised in Cedar Rapids and Solon, graduating from high school in Cedar Rapids. She worked for a year in the millinery department at Armstrong's Department Store in Cedar Rapids to earn enough money to attend Coe College there. She graduated from Coe in 1933, where she taught home economics at Grinnell High School.

In August of 1936, she married George Sharp Lannom III, and the couple resided in Grinnell. She was a homemaker and mother of four sons, in addition to being involved in Grinnell Hospital, Grinnell College, and the Grinnell United Way and United Church of Christ-Congregational activities. She traveled extensively and moved to Naples, Fla., in 1990.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ-Congregational in Grinnell as well as the Delta Delta Delta Sorority, the Order of the Eastern Star, the PEO and the Priscilla Club.

She is survived by four sons, G. Sharp Lannom IV, Thomas W. Lannom and William K. Lannom, all of Grinnell, and Charles S. Lannom of Wayzata, Minn.; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a grandson and a sister.

Memorials may be directed to the United Church of Christ-Congregational, Grinnell Regional Medical Center, or the Mayflower Home Human Needs Fund and sent in care of Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.
