GRINNELL MANUFACTURER SHARP LANNOM SUCCUMBS SUDDENLY SATURDAY MORNING

Sharp Lannom, prominent Grinnell manufacturer, died suddenly Saturday morning at a local hospital. He was 49.

Lannom had attended the Grinnell high school football game Friday night. After returning home he was suddenly taken ill and rushed to the hospital where he succumbed.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the First Congregational church with the Rev. Robert D. Dewey officiating. Organ music will be provided by Norman Goodbrod. Pallbearers will be Clifford A. Thompson, Howard Thompson, Paul R. Brink, John C. Davis, Richard Roe, and Charles Deatherage.

Masonic graveside services will be conducted by Hermon Lodge No. 273, A.F. and A.M. Interment will be in Hazelwood cemetery with the James-Schalinske Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Son of George S. and Martha Killough Lannom, he was born on Nov. 11th, 1911, at Shelbyville, Tenn. At the age of 12 he came with his parents to Grinnell. He was a graduate of the Grinnell public schools, the University of Cincinnati, the Wharton School of Finance and the University of Pennsylvania. He was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity.

On Aug. 15th, 1936, he was united in marriage with Dorothy Williams at Cedar Rapids. He was associated with the industries his father founded and was the owner of the Grinnell Shoe Co., Grinnell Glove Co., and the Craftmore Glove Co. of Lynchburg, Tenn.

Mr. Lannom was a member of the First Congregational church, the Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, the Consistory of Davenport, the Shrine of Cedar Rapids and served as advisor to the Grinnell DeMolay for the past 25 years. He was a member of the Grinnell Kiwanis Club and the Elks Lodge. He also served at the time of his death as chairman of the Poweshiek county Republican central committee.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; four sons, Sharp, Tom, Bill and Chuck; a sister, Mrs. Charles (Martha) Parish of Tullahoma, Tenn.; and his stepmother, Mrs. Edith Lannom of Tucson, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Community hospital building fund memorial has been established.
