KAREN J. ROBEY
Funeral services were held Friday morning, June 18, at the Madison Church of Christ, Brooklyn, for Mrs. Karen J. Robey, 54, of Brooklyn, who died Tuesday, June 15, 1999, in St. Mary's Hospital at Rochester, Minn., following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Dennis Smith, minister of the church officiated. The organist was Jan Read and the soloist was Joan Gerard, rendering the selection "Amazing Grace." Congregational hymns were "Great is Thy Faithfulness" and "Old Rugged Cross." Flower attendants were Mr. and Mrs. David DeVilder, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Korns and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Smith.
Honorary casket bearers were Glen Berry, Mark Lang, Lloyd Hall and Merle Richardson. Casket bearers were Dale Hawkins, Dale Van Tomme, Larry Vogel, Philip Heishman, John Estle and Steve Miller. Interment was in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom.
Karen Jean Brooks Robey, daughter of Elsworth Franklin Brooks and Helen Irene Richardson Brooks, was born Jan. 11, 1945, at Ottumwa. She received her education in a rural school in Davis County, the Brooklyn school and BGM, graduating from high school in 1963. She attended Iowa Cosmetology University in Iowa City.
On Oct. 3, 1964, Karen was married to John A. Robey at the Madison Church of Christ. Following their marriage they lived in Brooklyn for a short time, then north of Malcom until 1971.
They then farmed northeast of Brooklyn for nine years and since February 1980 they have lived at their present home. They were the parents of three sons, Rodney, Daniel and David.
Mrs. Robey was a member of Madison Church of Christ and Concerned Christian Women. Karen wrote many letters of encouragement to others, which she enjoyed doing very much.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Survivors include her husband, John; three sons, Rodney Robey, and his wife, Melissa, of Malcom, Daniel Robey, and his wife, Melinda, of New London, and David Robey of Brooklyn; her mother, Helen Brooks of Brooklyn; one sister, Vivian Molner, and her husband, Chas. of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; one brother, Dennis E. Brooks, and his wife, Marcia, of Red Bluff, Calif.; and two step-grandchildren, Codie and Chase Bloethe, and many nieces and nephews.
Nevenhoven Funeral Services of Brooklyn was in charge of arrangements. A memorial fund has been established for Madison Church of Christ.
