ELWORTH BROOKS
Elsworth F. Brooks, 75, of Brooklyn died Sunday, Feb. 21, at his home.
Funeral services were conducted Feb. 23, at the Madison Church of Christ in rural Brooklyn, with the Rev. Dennis Smith officiating. Pallbearers were Rod, Dan and David Robey, Mark O'Halloran, John Estle, Steven Miller, Charles DePauw and Tom Richardson. Honorary bearers were Creighton Vandegriff, Robert Riepe, Dale Hawkins, Arthur Keller, Maynard Saylor, Tim Siemens, Wayne Humphrey and Dean Conn.
Burial was in Brooklyn Cemetery, with the Nevenhoven Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The son of Pearl Franklin and Gertrude Olive Miller Brooks, he was born July 8, 1917, near Selma. He received his education in rural schools and was trained in diesel generators in Chicago.
He was married to Helen Richardson April 16, 1938, in Pulaski. They moved to Brooklyn in 1952 and Mr. Brooks worked as a diesel generator operator at the Brooklyn Electric Plant. He later sold Vigortone livestock pre-mixes and livestock treatment equipment, retiring in the early 1980s.
He was a member of the Madison Church of Christ where he served as a deacon. He was also a member of the IOOF Lodge in Selma.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Vivian Molner of Prescott Valley, Ariz., and Karen Robey of Brooklyn; one son, Dennis of Mt. Pleasant; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
