JEROME SLEBISKA RITES SATURDAY

Jerome Benjamin Slebiska, 77, of 417 Sixth Ave., died suddenly Thursday afternoon at Grinnell General Hospital.

He was born April 3, 1899, the son of James and Elizabeth Bouska Slebiska, near Calmar. He was married Jan. 6, 1925, to Hazel A. Johnson in Ellsworth. The couple had five children.

Mr. and Mrs. Slebiska lived in Ellsworth following their marriage and later moved to Eldora and Tama before coming to Grinnell in 1944. Mr. Slebiska had been associated with the Iowa Highway Commission 32 years; while in Grinnell, he served as foreman of the maintenance crew. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias in Grinnell.

Mr. Slebiska is survived by his wife, Hazel; five children, Miss Gerry Slebiska of Grinnell, Jerome H. Slebiska of Bay City, Mich., Mrs. Jean (Darlene) Roush of Long Grove, Iowa, Mrs. Laird (Irma) Latham of Grinnell, and James D. Slebiska of Grinnell; six grandchildren, Scott and Mitchell Latham of Grinnell, Jean and Chris Roush of Long Grove and Jerry and Jody Slebiska of Bay City; two brothers, James Slebiska of Calmar and Arnold Slebiska of Mason City; and three sisters, Mrs. George (Evelyn) Bucheit of Calmar, Mrs. Agnes Lane of Cedar Rapids and Miss Irma Slebiska of Calmar. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services for Mr. Slebiska were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. G.S. Bruland of Hawarden, Iowa, and the Rev. J. Eugene Young, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist church, officiating. Organist was Mrs. Willard Heffner, and flower bearers were Mrs. Sid Gustafson and Mrs. Gene Roe.

Honorary pallbearers were Harold Breese, Herbert Carter, Woodrow Jones, Fred Miller and Fred E. Taylor. Pallbearers were William E. Buss, Virgil Doud, Ronald Minear, Roy S. Mushrush, Max Smith and Al Wallace.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.
