FARRELL SIEHL

Farrell G. Siehl, 88, of Grinnell died of congestive heart failure Friday, April 12, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were held Monday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ken Wallace, pastor of the Newburg-Chester Congregational Church, officiating. Organist was Alice Renaud, and vocalists were Delmar and Jean Sharp.

Honorary bearers were Richard Harris, Randy Lidtka, Jim McKenna, Walter Puls, Maurice Telleen and Raymond Vogt. Burial was at Chester Cemetery north of Grinnell.

The son of John F. and Stella Baustian Siehl, he was born July 27, 1913, in Tama County. He later moved to Poweshiek County and was a 1932 graduate of Grinnell High School.

He was married to Ruth Vogt, Jan. 22, 1938, in Grinnell. They farmed in Chester Township prior to moving to Grinnell in 1997.

Mr. Siehl was a member of the Newburg-Chester Congregational Church and a 50-year member of the Farm Bureau. He was also a long-time member of the National Belgian Horse Association and the American Hereford Cattle Asssociation. He was a former draft-horse judge and had exhibited Hereford cattle and Belgian horses. He was inducted into the Iowa Draft Horse Hall of Fame in 2001.

Surviving are his wife; four children, Dorothy Wolverton of Lincoln, Neb., John of Malibu, Calif., Miriam Kujac of Madrid and Kathryn Sajic of Long Beach, Calif.; one sister, Blanch Harris of Grinnell; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

His parents and one sister, Dona Fae Park, preceded him in death.

Memorial contributions may be made to his church.
