WARREN R. BOYD

Warren Robert Boyd, 78, of Marshalltown, formerly of Grinnell, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Des Moines.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tim Stewart, pastor of the Grinnell First Baptist Church, officiating.

Pallbearers were Michael and Eric Boyd, Jeff and Lawrence Cleaveland, Marlin Galloway, Mark Meyer and Jeff Oestmann. Honorary bearers were Patty Boyd, Kelli Cleaveland, Cloyce West, Sherry Meyer, Becky Cleaveland, Bambi Oestmann and his 11 great-grandchildren.

Veterans military rites were conducted by members of Focht-Tennant Post No. 53 of the American Legion, with burial in Hazelwood Cemetery.

He was the son of John and Eliza Smith Boyd, and was born Jan. 7, 1922, in Ewart. He was raised and educated in Ewart.

During Wolrd War II, he served with the U.S. Army in the Southwest Pacific.

He was married to Violet Sanders in 1946.

Following his military service, he worked at various service stations, a grocery store, the Grinnell Glove Factory and Grinnell College before spending many years with the Iowa Department of Transportation. He retired in 1972 because of health problems.

Mr. Boyd was a member of the VFW and the American Legion and was a former member of the Eagles Lodge in Grinnell.

He is survived by his children, Doris Shoup of Grinnell, Robert of Des Moines and Michael of Lincoln, Neb.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Woodrow of Brooklyn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John; and one sister, Evelyn Chrissinger.
