ALICE EAMES

Alice Eames, 86, of Grinnell died Wednesday, July 25, at St. Francis Manor.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Grinnell, with the Rev. Tim Stewart officiating. Organist was Denise Baustian, and vocalists were Keith and Barbara Briggs.

Casket bearers were David Dale, Ben Pearce, Larry Sears, Warren Wiley, and Carl, Joe and Troy Wittenburg. Honorary bearers were Colleen Benson, Ruth Hannay and Doris Pearce. Burial was at Chester Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

She was born June 13, 1915, in Sheridan Township to George and Frances Harbison Mayo. She was raised on the family farm and attended Sheridan No. 4 School. She was a graduate of Grinnell High School.

She was married to Daryl Eames Feb. 13, 1915, in Des Moines. They lived in State Center before moving to a farm north of Grinnell in 1943. They farmed until moving to Grinnell, where she worked in the dietary department of the Mayflower.

Mrs. Eames was a member of the First Baptist Church and was a member of the church trustees and Board of Missions.

Surviving are four daughters, Barbara Callison of Blackfoot, Idaho, Nancy Wittenburg of Wyndmer, N.D., Joyce Schlosser of Omaha, Neb., and Dolly Pearce of Grinnell; 13 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one son, Daryl; one sister, Grace Anthony; and two brothers, Frank and Charles Mayo.

Memorial contributions may be made to her church or to Quakerdale.
