GRACE ANTHONY

Grace C. Anthony, 90, of 919 Seeland Drive, Grinnell, died Thursday, Aug. 31, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.

Services were held Sept. 2 at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Rev. Ken Wallace, pastor of the Newburg-Chester Parish, officiating. Organist was Delores Weaver.

Pallbearers were Donald Anthony, Phillip Anthony, Ronald Clayton, David Lang, Larry Lang, and Robert Saunders. Honorary bearers were Warren Dee, Earl Heishman, Donald Parker, and Clair Simmons. Flower bearers were Floyd and Janyce Heishman and Virgil and Dorothy Stone. Burial was in the Sheridan Cemetery, north of Malcom. Memorials may be made to the Sheridan United Methodist Church.

She was born Sept. 2, 1904 in Poweshiek County to George and Frances Harbison Mayo. She attended rural school and later graduated from Grinnell High School. She attended the Iowa Teachers College at Cedar Falls, and taught at Madison #3 School.

She was married to David U. Anthony on March 15, 1925 at her parents home in Sheridan Township. The couple lived in Sheridan Township, where they farmed for 54 years. In 1979, they moved to Tama and in 1990 they moved to Seeland Park in Grinnell.

She was a member of the Sheridan United Methodist Church, where she taught Bible school. She was also a 4-H leader for many years.

Survivors include her husband, David U. Anthony of Grinnell; two daughters, Dorothea M. Lang and Helen L. Mayo, both of Brooklyn; two sons, Charles D. Anthony of Fontanelle and Richard M. Anthony of Anamosa; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Alice Eames of Grinnell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Frank and Charles Mayo; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.
