WILMA NOLAN

Wilma M. "Billie" Nolan, 70, of Mount Carmel, Ill., died Thursday, Aug. 3, at her son's home in Mount Carmel.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Raymond Lott, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Organist was Margaret Wheeler, and pallbearers were Bill, John, Mike and Richard Ahrens, David Palmer, Lyle Phipps and Larry Wray. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

A memorial in her name has been established.

The daughter of John and Mayme Badger Ahrens, she was born in Rock Creek Township west of Grinnell. She graduated from Grinnell High School and also attended Grinnell College. During World War II, she served with the WAVES in the U.S. Navy.

She was married to John T. Nolan Aug. 3, 1949, in Ithaca, N.Y. Following their marriage, they lived in Newton, Niles, Mich., and Sylvania, Ohio.

She is survived by her husband; one daughter, Joanne Illingworth of Shaker Heights, Ohio; a son, John of Mt. Carmel; three grandchildren; two brothers, Claude and Donald Ahrens, both of Grinnell; and two sisters, Elizabeth Fanton of Gilman and Esther Wray of Grinnell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John and Carl Ahrens; and three sisters; Mary Muckler, Katherine Cummings and Josie Dunton.
