ROSE EDIE STOOPS

Rose Edie Stoops, 105, of Grinnell died Nov. 14 at the Mayflower Health Care Center.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Carman Center of the Mayflower, with the Rev. Bob Molsberry, pastor of the Grinnell United Church of Christ-Congregational, officiating. Organist will be Alice Renaud.

The daughter of Walter and Mary Flescher Edie, she was born Dec. 31, 1895, near Tingley. She was a 1914 graduate of Christian Academy, University Park, and received a B.A. degree from the University of Iowa in 1918. She then taught Latin and mathematics at several schools in Iowa and Illinois.

She was married to Harry A. Rinehart Nov. 30, 1933, in Toledo, and the couple farmed southeast of Deep River. Mr. Rinehart died in 1936. She then rented the farm and worked as a practical nurse in Deep River.

She was married to John D. Stoops, a Grinnell College professor, on June 13, 1951, in Montezuma.

Mrs. Stoops was curator of the Grinnell Historical Museum and was a president of the Museum Auxiliary for many years. She was a member of the United Church of Christ-Congregational, and was active in the Women's Fellowship and as church historian. She was also a member of the Grinnell Historical Society, Historical and Literary Club and Tuesday Club. She was honored by the Grinnell Kiwanis Club as Outstanding Senior Citizen of Poweshiek County in 1967 and on Rose Stoops Day Sept. 12, 1981, by the city of Grinnell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husband; two brothers, Irwin and William Edie; and one sister, Mary Muckler.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Grinnell Historical Museum or the Mayflower.
